Steampunk Wedding Top Hat

I was asked once what I love most about working in the wedding industry and my response was that I loved the thought of a hat I created surrounded my so much love and so many exquisite details. I say it all the time and I'll say it again: the brides I get to work with are HANDS DOWN the COOLEST people in the world.

Mini top hat handmade from scratch using a white brocade satin. Embellished with a natural white ostrich plume (from MY wedding :), itty bitty gears and an oval brass vintage brooch.
Detachable birdcage veil to boot!

Gorgeous. Love a bride in a stellar jacket.

LOOK AT THESE SHOES!!! Just LOOK at this BADASSERY!!!

Of course Allison was not without the most beautiful brooch bouquet. I love how it is so pin heavy but still mixed with fresh flowers. Ugh. Such.good.taste.
Are you sitting down?? The Steampunk wedding cake to end all Steampunk wedding cakes.

Adorable

Seriously honored once again to have a mini part in this day! Thank you ever so and congrats to Allison. And congrats to her hubby for choosing wisely. ;)

Of COURSE this wedding was featured in Offbeat Bride! Click the photo below for the post and tonnnns more photos of the big day!!!!

Birdcage Veil Mask

Let me tell you a little story called Why I love Etsy.

Because I get customers who see this:

And envision this:

Because when you make a purchase for said customer looking for a vintage citrine brooch, it comes to you like this:

Because I'm sure this fabulous bride will try her veil in every way possible. Because she's cool:

Because I still can't believe every day is full of beautiful, new, shiny things. Shiny people.

Go visit Chasing Greener Days for lots o' awesome vintage stuff.

Harry Potter Wedding

A hat for a world of Harry Potter themed wedding?! YES PLEASE. I love love love love love a bride with a touch of brown or tan in her ensemble. It is so stylish and fearless so totally different. Right on par with the rest of Kristi's fabulously unique look!

Kristi sent me these to die inspiration photos for her ensemble.

"The feel of the wedding is going to be vintage and whimsical with some steam punk-like, gothic flair."

Girl after my own heart. She wore Michelle Roth's McKenzie. My bridal gown was Michelle Roth as well so I felt the warm and fuzzies as soon as I saw it.  MR really brings a classic funk doesnt she?! A pattern on a wedding dress is so rock n roll if you ask me.

Kristi created her world of Harry Potter at the MAGNIFICENT Foundry in New York. A renovated iron foundry from the 1800s! Sigh*

This dusty blue bolero plucked all of my creative chords! So moody and romantic.

She loved the shape of the Duchess C mini tricorn hat and I knew immediately which fabrics I wanted to use.

The brown and blue brocade damask from the Peacock Victorian Mini Top Hat. And of course my unmatched dusty blue dupioni silk. I threw some tan and ivory into the mix and crossed my fingers Kristi would go for it!!

A little nod to the snow owl and a mix of vintage buttons to bring the whimsy.

Go for it she DID. Look at these two!! Absolutely good enough to eat adorable.

J'adore the candle ceremony backdrop.

I just want to pull up a chair to this dessert table.

Hooray to owl cakes!!! I love the clean, rustic, DELICIOUS feel of this.

Rocking the detachable birdcage veil. Hard.

<3 br="br">

Oh hey, tablescape. I'll take one of everything, please.

Thank you EVER SO to Kristi for sharing her gorgeous day! Years of MAGIC to you and your equally as awesome, top hat wearin' hubby!

Bridal Carnival Mad Hatter Top Hat

Weddings. I love em all. Brides. Love them too. They're all wacked out on pretty things 24-7. I can relate. But once in a while a a bride comes along that blows even my mind away.

Firstly, when a bride says she's making her own wedding dress I, basically, buckle my seatbelt. This girl is cool. She's cooler than me. L created a dress somewhere between these two dresses. Lace sleeves, full skirt, le sigh*

Then comes a pinteresting message chock full of vintage carnival / circus inspiration! I die! Bowls of carnival tickets, photo booths, chalkboards!

Oh and btw she says! These are the SPIKED HEELS I'll be wearing with my wedding dress. I danced. In place. I did a real dance. I had JUST found these teeny tiny spikes and was so excited to use them on  a hat. What better hat than this one!!!?

I had also recently purchased these A-MAZING vintage carnival tickets from Modern Poetry on Etsy. I was clearly meant to make this hat!

Tiny spikes!!

L's wedding date is October 6th!! Hello Mad Hatter tag! I assure you...it does not stop there. This hat is so full of hidden treasures that it is a FEAST for your eyes from every angle.

Monochromatic pink stripes, ivory satin, a modern orange calico fabric. Orchids! Lilies! Popcorn! You name it. This hat IS a carnival!

So much love to Leesie on her wedding week! Thanks for being such an inspiration and trusting me with your headpiece! Hope you love it as much as I do!
