Custom Carnival Birthday Party Hat

There is something about making a hat for a five year old that overwhelms me with confusion and elation. The decisions! The choices! The possibilities! They're endless and I'm convinced its going to leave the studio trailing glitter with a mustache and a feather boa.

I may have to step away more times than usual, but I think I always wind up with a balance of
happy and classic.

 Popcorn and Jelly Bellys. #Thisisnotadream.

This was Connie's second custom piece from me which melts my heart and all.. but on top of it... this lady is cool. And it sounds like Olivia is too. "She loves all colors. The crazier the better I think". The solution = colorful polka dot lining.

Mismatched patterns = always in style

The lineup if you're inspired to make some stuff mad:

Orange Calico Canvas
                                                              Bright Polka Dot Cotton
Yellow and White Stripe Satin
Orange Argyle

She even looked pretty as I was packaging her to ship.

Happy almost birthday to Olivia! Bet your carnival party is going to be a SMASH! And thank you Connie for being an excellent gift giver and for this fun, fresh project. My birthday is June 24th.

As always for your own custom piece, message me on the ol' Facebook or Etsy

Bridal Carnival Mad Hatter Top Hat

Weddings. I love em all. Brides. Love them too. They're all wacked out on pretty things 24-7. I can relate. But once in a while a a bride comes along that blows even my mind away.

Firstly, when a bride says she's making her own wedding dress I, basically, buckle my seatbelt. This girl is cool. She's cooler than me. L created a dress somewhere between these two dresses. Lace sleeves, full skirt, le sigh*

Then comes a pinteresting message chock full of vintage carnival / circus inspiration! I die! Bowls of carnival tickets, photo booths, chalkboards!

Oh and btw she says! These are the SPIKED HEELS I'll be wearing with my wedding dress. I danced. In place. I did a real dance. I had JUST found these teeny tiny spikes and was so excited to use them on  a hat. What better hat than this one!!!?

I had also recently purchased these A-MAZING vintage carnival tickets from Modern Poetry on Etsy. I was clearly meant to make this hat!

Tiny spikes!!

L's wedding date is October 6th!! Hello Mad Hatter tag! I assure you...it does not stop there. This hat is so full of hidden treasures that it is a FEAST for your eyes from every angle.

Monochromatic pink stripes, ivory satin, a modern orange calico fabric. Orchids! Lilies! Popcorn! You name it. This hat IS a carnival!

So much love to Leesie on her wedding week! Thanks for being such an inspiration and trusting me with your headpiece! Hope you love it as much as I do!

As always, for your own custom hat or headpiece message me here:

Wedding Inspiration: Mad Hatter Chic

I was so excited and to be honest, a little nervous for Nicole's red, orange and green inspiration photos. Being a pink and purple gal myself, I knew something magical would come of pushing my color envelope. I found the PERFECT vintage mushroom pin from BlendedSplendid on Etsy. (Seriously - if you love anything retro, kitschy or fantastically odd - you will find something you want in her shop!)
I was giddy. GIDDY about the finished product. I can just see Nicole's entire ensemble now!

There's nothing like a June bride...

Hats off to Nicole! Wishing you the wedding of your dreams!
Happy Monday everyone!
