Large Couture Red Flower Headband

...and a post about cigarettes.

If you know me personally chances are that you know me with a cigarette. One unabashed cigarette and yours truly. The worst kind of smoker really. The kind that thinks you're missing out. The sound of burning paper and the feeling of complete calm. One second of glorious satisfaction. So, naturally,  I did that as much as possible. (also because of my complete physical and mental addiction.)

I made myself one promise throughout my smoking career and that was that I wouldn't smoke in my wedding dress. How tragic, right? Wrong. Broke the promise. Got this shot. And really I should have quit as soon as I had this hanging on my wall...since smoking had never or would never look as cool again.

photography by SOTA Dzine

It has been sixteen days without a cigarette. The longest I have ever not smoked in thirteen years. Not a patch. Not a piece of gum. Not one puff. It went a little something like this:

11pm - Driving in car. One cigarette left. Dont feel like stopping at gas station.
11:06pm - Dont stop at gas station
11:06 - 11:19pm - Internal monologue about whether or not I should smoke the last cig now or the next day.  (now that is an effing tragedy)
11: 20pm - Realizing I don't want to think about smoking ever again.
The end.

Everyone knows cigarettes are bad for you. Bla bla. But in my blissful ignorance and in my fleeting seconds of gratification, I didnt have to think about it. It isnt until now that I realize how diabolical and truly wicked manufactured cigarettes are. I have spent the last sixteen days doing nothing but thinking about them. Think about the unhealthiest relationship of your life. Multiply that by a hundred. Fits of rage, nonsensical bursts of tears, my body still doesnt know whether to go run in a field or lay down and die. Not to mention a whooollle lotta this face:

So kids, the moral of the story is: Don't buy cigarettes. Unfortunately, smoking stopped being cool when Audrey Hepburn started smoking her third pack a day. Your Aunt Jas tried to bring it back for you..but meh. I'll bring hats back instead.

Speaking of which, click on any of the photos for the listing of the red headpiece. I promise I wont buy cigs with my hat money anymo'! <3>

Large flower headpiece hat headband

Every time I make a new style headpiece, I think its my favorite ever. Can't stop making them. Can't stop looking at them. Can't stop thinking of places to wear them. I dont know. These silk flower headbands may just stay on top for a while. I love every little thing about them. The exaggerated size, the height, the dimensions...all of it!

Enjoy and shop for the sake of Jesus!

I wanted the flower to still look like a hat but be easy and flattering for any person in the entire universe; so they are built to be worn on a super thin silver headband.

They look totally different worn different ways. Oh huge floppy flower. I heart thee.
This is created with a white silk dupioni and a very light silver satin.

LOVE the purple as well. Made with a dusty lavender satin. (Think Julia Roberts a la My Best Friend's Wedding) Grey satin and a dusty mauve silk dupioni. Click any photo for the listing to purchase!)

"Not too shabby" Boudoir Shoot

Photos from the mini hat boudoir extravaganza have arrived!!! We've had a trying week here at Two Back Flats so you can imagine how thrilled I was ripping open this envelope...

Alana and I met in college while we were studying Visual Communications and Design and I cannot be more thankful that she still rocks her graphic design magic through Vanity's Edge. In addition to being a smashing photographer, I go ga ga over Alana's feminine, sultry style.

My last minute decision to be a part of A's Shabby Chic inspired boudoir shoot was the best decision I've made in a while. I'm almost thankful I didn't have tons of time to psych myself out. I tend to do that ;) The morning of the shoot, I had to stop myself from chewing off my nails.

Not only did I have zero to be worried about but I had a blasssst with Alana. Being decked out in hats and surrounded by her breezy, romantic set was only half of it. We did not stop laughing the entire day.

Enjoy the following husband approved photos from the shoot! ;)

Remember this hat? Only one will be available verrry soon in my Etsy shop for your summer tea parties...

Any chance to wear these shoes is a chance I'm taking...

This bad ass vintage hat box came from where most of my most cherished vintage finds come from (including my wedding band :)

Though our original "Tea Party Hat" has retired. One rogue petite size is left for one tiny lady...

**Yes, Renn-Festers ... The hat above is a mini tricorn hat. Get excited**

Very good things

Making tons of tiny hats and gearing up for a Faerie Festival in March! Which means I'm spending the day with my most fun friend, The Martha Stewart glitter kit. Only good things can come of this.

Speaking of good things, this wedding dress is the very core of why I adore what I do and why I adore my customers even more. I dare you to not be inspired by this.

Thanks for the extra pretty today C! Just cannot wait to make a hat for this dress.

Life is good. Happy Happy Beautiful Friday friends!

Alice in Wonderland Engagement Photos

I don't even know how to start this post! Anna found me online to have custom bridal party mini top hats made. It may have been the fact that she wanted them in turquoise, hot pink, orange and green that made me fall in love with her. But, we were instant friends. We had a blast talking about her Mad Hatter themed wedding. Coming up with crazy ideas and gushing over things like tea sets. She is salt of the earth, writer of hand written notes, encouraging beyond measure and truly the type of person you want on your side.

...And beautiful to top it off! After she received her bridal party hats, we went on to make her a black mini top hat and hair bow for her Alice in Wonderland Engagement session. Complete with croquet mallets, tutus, striped socks and her friend's rabbit, these photos are such such such a treat. Courtesy of her equally awesome photographer Courtney Reece.

Without further ado:
